To reflect the changes at what is now a vibrant and pleasant venue, which not only boasts great food and friendly priced drinks but also one of the widest ranges of music of any venue in the city, the Landlady was looking for a website that could offer all necessary information, be easy and simple to update, mobile friendly and reflect the pub's environment.
Given the Newmarket's extremely diverse customer demographic, from older locals to younger student bands and their fans, to travellers and families coming in from the coach station, it was decided that the website should serve as a simple 'brochure' which would deliver all information quickly and effectively without a focus on appealing to any particular demographic. Whether it was mobile friendly information on the Newmarket's extensive food menu for travellers or Events pages that needed to share to social networks and present information to gig goers, the website had to reflect the nature of the venue and present all content without hierarchy. The landlady was after a warm, friendly and homely 'tavern' feel.
We opted to soak up the viewers attention first and foremost with the warmth of the pub colours, a deep red with white lettering, and proceeded to warm up the site with a dark wooden background. In addition, the main navigation across the website was reduced down to the three main services that were on offer, meaning that any customer would quickly begin getting the information that is most important to them.
Audra wasn't keen on having an elaborate 'About' page, so a neat business blurb is situated on the homepage alongside attractive images of the pub's main services. Any more relevant information features in a lovely footer menu, from which the more interested customers can explore a gallery of images, check out reviews or proceed to contact with the offered form or click to call on mobile.
In addition, the entire food and drinks menu is featured as a real time web page and not the troublesome PDF menus that feature on many websites. This means that Audra can update and change her menu within minutes while her customers have a more pleasant browsing experience without a scary pop up.
Audra's main issues with her last website were that she had no idea how to use it, had no input on design of look or features, couldn't share to social networks or even update it easily.
The Newmarket Tavern now has an online presence which reflects the venue in colour, feel, design and warmth.
